Jacob heralding for the youth tourney, decked out in 16th century Polish Hussar garb.
Jossilyn's shieldWe recently attended our first SCA event since Jossilyn's death. At this same event last year, Jossilyn won her division in the youth fighting tourney. This year, the youth tourney was held as a memorial to her. The Golden Apple Memorial tournament. (Jossilyn used a golden apple on a red field as her device as you can see on the shield she made.) Oddly enough, my son Kaleb and my nephew Logan both won their divisions this time--the first time for both that they have won tourneys. Kaleb has been fighting for a little over a year, as has Logan.
We have another event coming up in May. We will be going to Panteria which is held in Panther Vale. Ummm that's mundanely known as Vermont--Hardwick, Vermont I think. We went last year and the kids had a great time--we all did. I won the axe throwing challenge there last year.
I should really be working on more garb since the plan is to go to Pennsic War this year. That is a two week long event so we will need more stuff to wear. Never mind the fact that most of my stuff doesn't fit right now. But I haven't felt much like sewing. I'll get to it sometime.
I recently picked up a book by chance by Allison Dubois, the woman the show Medium is based on. We are Their Heaven. I have so many things I want to say about it, that I don't know where to begin. It was...kind of amazing for me. It was reassuring on some levels but also gave me something to think about. Why/how I happened to pick it up I don't know. (We very seldom watch that show, though we enjoy it when we do.) But I found it more in line with what I think/believe and how I am than a lot of other things I have read lately (about grief, etc.)
